Lately I have been playing a lot of Guild Wars 2. If you are tired of the traditional MMO’s (WoW) then I’d highly recommend giving this one a try. Its not so much a focus on killing X number of enemies and collecting Y number of things. Guild Wars 2 focuses more on exploration (they even reward you experience for jump puzzles)! Don’t get me wrong there are heart quests where you generally have to kill things to complete, but even those don’t feel as mundane as other MMO kill quests. Even better, each character you create has a different personalized story based on the choices you make when you create your character! So playing through the game with multiple characters feels rewarding and manages to keep things fresh.
Another thing I really enjoy about this game is the PvP, or should I say WvW (World vs World). In this type of player versus player, your server is competing against other servers to take and hold a section of the map which is used only for WvW. A big part of this is trying to take and hold fortresses. You can even build siege weapons to help you take or hold fortresses! I don’t know everything that’s going on in WvW as I’ve only played it a handful of times, but it definitely gives me a sense of being part of an actual army which I’ve never felt before in an MMO. It reminds me of ‘Lord of the Rings’ when they are trying to hold Helm’s Deep. Here’s some video of my doing WvW from my Twitch stream (www.twitch.tv/brudi07).
Overall I’m having a lot of fun with Guild Wars 2 and if you guys are interested in playing you can find me on Yak’s Bend. My account name is brudi.1974.
